Welcome to the Pittsburgh Hobby Forums! We hope this area will become a great local resource for finding help, information, friends, and much more. Hobbies enrich lives. Growing up I spent a lot of time in hobby shops of all kinds. Now, they are few and far between. Many young people have never even been to a *real* hobby shop. What are hobbies? Everyone has different ideas, but in general, they are activities and pastimes outside our "usual" or "customary" daily grind. They are meant to relax us, stimulate us, and enrich us. They are perhaps, the only way we can express our passions and true interests (not many of us can make a living doing what we love). Our concentration here is towards the "classic crafts." Model building, collecting, games and puzzles, and arts and crafts. We tend to draw the line at R/C models and similar. R/C models are more like "sports" and we classify them as such. Model building covers a wide range of territory, from plastic kits, to model trains, to ornate wooden ships. These forums are geared more towards those forms of hobbies. We have other forums for things like beading, rock tumbling, and soon other activities. No one area can be everything to every one -- or for everyone. In trying to do so, it loses it's identity, and becomes a very large, noisy mall, rather than a comfortable lounge. Currently, this forum is targeting Model Trains, Dollhouses, and model building (generic). As we find the interest, or need, we'll open other forums for other interests. We'll also be opening other sites for aspects of those hobbies that are more of a show and tell, than a discussion. Check out the MAIN page (or HobbyWire.com) for more. We have several dollhouse sites, train sites, and soon to re-open model building sites. We LOVE Sci-Fi vehicles, especially the Gerry Anderson ones. Thunderbird 2 and the Eagle transporter are two of our very favorites. If your local club or hobby group needs a webspace, and the help to keep it running, please drop us a line. There are a lot of things we can offer you. We run our own servers, have some great software, and do all our own customizations, so we can be responsive to your needs. All we ask in return is your participation to develop the hobby network and it's resources. Please don't be shy! Join in! If there is something you'd like to see, let us know. We'd like this to be YOUR area, and a place where you can feel at home.
